Hey everyone, I’ve been trying to figure out how to cross post some of the persona 4 Golden screenshots I’ve been posting, and it’s going to take a while. I really want to share this game with you all since it’s so amazing.

Be sure to expect some screenshots soon! Or at least, until I figure out how to cross post stuff.

Why I like Super Robot Wars, and why more people should try it

Seeing as Super Robot Wars UX is coming out this March for the 3DS. I want to talk a bit about it as not a lot of people actually see why this is so very appealing.

First a link to the trailers for the newest one:

Wait… Was that a Miku themed Feiyen from Virtual-On around 1:39? Ninja Robots? The Aura Battler Dunbine returns? Urgh cursed Nintendo region lock makes me want to justify piracy or something.

Ok, I went off topic there for a bit. Anyway!

The entire Super Robot Wars series has always been just simply fan service. It’s all about crossovers and mash ups from different mecha themed anime shows all combined into one storyline.

Like say… What if a unit of Gundam mechs faced off against a berserk Eva 01?

Hahaha take that Deaka! No one loves you anyway.

Or how about if Macross VF units went against those bugs from Gunbuster?

You gotta love those classic 80’s anime haircuts too.

See how I’m posting a lot of videos here? Because that is the true appeal of the game. It’s all about taking control of a mech from a particular show along with all its special moves, placing it in a strategy game, then watching them go at it.

/insert manly tears of appreciation here/

Of course, you can turn off the animation and just watch the numbers pop up. Defeats the purpose of playing IMHO.

A less global appeal is the storylines. They’re very well written, even though they have to  mash together many  different storylines. Each character retains their personalities and actually interacts in a very believable way. Like how Kouji Kabuto, the Mazinger Pilot, hits it off with Asuka from Evangelion, because they had similar personalities, or after gathering up the people from G Gundam and Daimos, they then had a karate tournament to see who’s the best (of course it gets interrupted near the end when Domon Kashuu and  Kazuya were facing off).

not really what happened
They were all “URGYAAA”!

One last thing is that you can always choose which mech to level up and upgrade. So you can vary each play through by bringing a different mixup. I made it so that the ending of Gundam seed was finished by real men (the crew of Macross) and kept all the emo kids away.

So that’s why I like the series and recommend if for those who like to see robots kick ass.

Pokemon X and Y

As we’ve all heard, there will be a new series of pokemon games coming out this October. Their titles are: Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

Kinda sad that its not going to be the same old colors, but its viable that its letters now. Combining X, Y and Z will become a complete 3D plane, just using the 3DS as an advantage.

I can’t wait to reserve my own copy. Mark your calendars for October!

Dillon’s Rolling Western

Dillon’s Rolling Western was one of the first well reviewed bunch of games that came out along with the Nintendo eShop. Alongside Pushmo and Colors 3D, it was one of the games I had on my must buy as soon as possible list when I got the 3DS.

The game is mostly described as a mixture between action and tower and its almost right in that respect but one will realize after playing that it is way more heavy on the action part.

The game’s story follows Dillon, an armadillo, as he and his sidekick protect towns from getting their cattle eaten by rock monsters, called Grocks that pop out of the earth. For some reason the townsfolk are terrified of facing these Grocks head on and would rather place ineffective towers as well as hire total strangers to do all the dirty work.

As Dillon, you roll around the map and get rid of these monsters before they can go on their snack binge. After hitting an enemy on the main game you enter a small arena and then its time to appreciate Dillon’s fancy footwork as his moves are nice to see, easy to control and are really effective. He even has items for one shot effects as well as a  meter that allows a super move when activated.

The tower defense part of the game comes in via the watch towers and gun towers scattered throughout the map. These towers are there to relieve part of the burden for Dillon as they can damage and even take out some of the enemies. They are in predetermined locations, however, and you can only change the guns or upgrade them. Also, towers are upgraded/equipped straight from Dillon’s wallet and since cash is mostly your reward for finishing stages, you can purchase and upgrade a lot of towers and make the stage a breeze but actually spend more than you will earn, which is seriously not fun.

You can’t ignore the towers either as there are multiple paths to the town and when you are fighting one group of enemies you can be bypassed by the rest. Another thing is when the Grocks move through areas which are not within any line of sight of a tower, they move really fast sometimes even phasing through cliffs. Oh and the Grocks will also attack and destroy the towers.

So the game is actually an intense round of rushing around and killing enemies while managing and defending a network of towers, in which you also need to take some time to harvest food for the cattle, mine minerals, and accomplish quests.
Its a heck of a lot of work and all the sliding and tapping with the stylus actually got me a ruined screen protector!

Duo pose

In closing,  the game is a lot of fun. However, its so hectic that it kinda grinds you down. Like how scaling a wall or making a model airplane, can both be fun for the person but at the same time so tiring that you wouldn’t want to do it all the time. I have to confess, after I switched to a 3DS XL, I re-installed all my purchased games immediately except for this game because I don’t want to go through all that work again. Play it, finish it, get bragging rights for finishing the game as it is indeed an achievement, then shelve it.

Dillon’s Rolling Western is available on the Nintendo eShop 😀

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion

This is the first time I’m going to be writing about a demo of a game that I downloaded in the 3DS eShop for the VERY FIRST TIME, so please bear with me.

So I was looking through the eShop when I noticed that Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion was out. So after a few moments, I started downloading it. When it finished, I was so excited to try it out!

Wow, once I opened that demo, I sure didn’t like it.

Don’t get me wrong, the sprites in this game is SUPERB but it’s just so slooooooow. The gameplay is so slow, I was actually thinking of turning off my 3DS and going back to my boring routine life. It’s a good game, if you are a big fan of the Mickey franchise.

Let’s start first with the story.

It all starts with Oswald calling Mickey, telling that Minnie has been kidnapped by the witch Mizrabel. God, the text panning was so so SLOW. Blah blah, you rush off to save Minnie. Then suddenly, Minnie appears in Mickey’s house looking for him. Hmmm… What is happening here?

So then you go forth to the castle of Illusion, saving random Disney characters inside the castle.

What I like about this game is the sprite art. It’s so detailed and even though they’re sprites, its all good. What I hate is how slow Mickey runs, the part where you have to draw out blocks for you to get to places, and just WHY THIS GAME IS SO SLOW.

I know, its just a demo, but I’m really SORRY. I don’t like it. I am so glad they have demos, because if they didn’t, I would probably be in the evil clutches of the 3DS market, finding out that I could’ve made a mistake in buying this game.

If you are a fan of slow paced games, go ahead. If you aren’t, don’t get this game.

Yes I will introduce myself so now drop that severely blunt knife

So a comment is not considered a good reply?

Well the nom de plume is DeCampanille and I love games. From arcade to roguelike, from action to RPG, I love em as long as they have good/weird gameplay elements and/or a good story.

I’ll be posting reviews and such here to help out my dearest friend Mikazuki.

Now  let me go!
